The New Star Wars Movie, The BEST Man Made Wave Pool Ever. And it comes from the BEST Surfer ever. Kelly Slater. Plus the Crazy Friend of The San Bernardino Terrorists.
Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I don't know, maybe I'm actually jaded. I don't really care about this new Star Wars movie. I care more about John John Florence's movie "VIEW FROM A BLUE MOON" and even more about Kelly Slater's, new man made wave pool.

This Wave Pool will absolutely blow your mind.

But more about that later. I don't want to upset any of you Jedi warriors by dissing your movie. And I'm not really. It's just that we're not that interested. Sorry Cory, I tossed you into the mix.

The Force Awakens. And man has it ever awakened all of the Star wars fans from all over the world. They are estimating trillions of of dollars to be made. (Ok I'm kidding) But I bet it makes more than any other movie out there. And quite possibly the biggest draw since the last Star Wars flick. The movie company has to be salivating over
that news, along with Lucas and company.

Looks like the Force also awakened these two original cast members. Harrison Ford and Mark
Hamil. Proof again, that time waits for no man. No matter how much money you have.
If either one of these guys were to walk by me today, I would think
they were homeless. But they are anything but. Here's something I found on the www. Pretty funny.

Ok enough of these two. This is a surf blog (most of the time).

The NEW WAVE POOL that Superman Kelly Slater has built will without question, blow your mind. It will BLOW YOU AWAY. I posted a clip down in the video section and I can't stress this enough, YOU MUST WATCH IT. This Wave Pool will change everything we have ever thought about man made wave pools. I'm telling you.

Check out Kelly's reaction to seeing
the first wave pour through. Talk about stoked. 10 years in the making and the finished product is here and ready to be ridden by the BEST surfer in the world.

The future is here. It is here. And when you see the clip, you'll agree.

OK if you can't wait to see it in the video section below. Just click on the image above and be prepared to spit up all over yourself. Do it. Look closely, that's Kelly Slater in the barrel. And that barrel? Oh yea, it goes on forever JUST LIKE THIS. Click it.

Are we all going to be better off with this kind of technology? I think we will. Some don't agree. They are thinking that those who learn how to ride on these man made waves, will be come the best surfers in the world. I don't see that for one simple reason.

Paddle power.

Those who learn how to surf in the wave pool, will not be as strong as those who learn in the ocean. Because let's face it. Surfing is all about paddling. And if you can't paddle out, you can't catch waves. The
wave-pool will benefit those who already know how to surf. That's you and I, with about a few million others. Though I do suppose that if they could make this functional, this is what we might be seeing in the future of competitive surfing. What do you think?

What's in your wallet Kelly Slater?

"Ed's Corner" pic this week is a shot from the Fall of 2009. I loved Ed's empty wave pics. And he knew how much I loved them. I miss Ed. Wishing his wife Kathy a Merry Christmas, and if you can hear or see me Ed, Merry Christmas to you too! To see more of Ed's pics just hit the archives tab and scroll through the years and see some of Ed's work. It's worth the trip down memory lane.

Be sure to pick up the SFOD movie The COLD COAST
and check out the extra feature of Ed O'Connell's gallery.

Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

Am I alone here? Why did they take so long to arrest this guy?
Just this photo alone, is grounds to have him behind bars.

Enrique Marquez (above) is the guy who bought the weapons
for these two lunatics. Look at that face. Are you shitting me?

He was also planning an attack along with Farood. In 2012 they were to drop pipe bombs in congested highway traffic, and then systematically shoot the drivers in their vehicles. Enrique was to get on high ground, and shoot from there, as well as to shoot law enforcement members when they showed up.

Here let me help the FEDS on this one. LOCK HIS CRAZY ASS UP and throw away the key. You're welcome.

KSM Photoshop of the Week

Not sure how KSM ended up in the new Star Wars movie, but I'm not surprised. I think he looks good in drag. Clearly he should be
a villain. But I'm not really sure what his role is. Same with this pic below. It really doesn't matter what his role is supposed to be, what matters the most, is that I put him in some embarrassing positions, that I'm sure is making Al Qeada members twist in the wind. Either way, it's fun to do every week.

Please my friends, enjoy the weekly humiliation of the master mind behind the September 11th, 2001 attacks. The man who was behind the killing of 3,000 innocent civilians. The number two big dog of Al Qeada. Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

* Note to self, must pick up a case of Light Sabers at Home Depot.

*Happy Birthday Tony Berardini December 24th, 2015!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jesus Christ December 25th, 2015!
RIP Adam Roth (great guitar player) who played with a lot of musicians. Including The Marshalls, The Del Fuegos, and his latest band The Liza Colby Sound. He leaves behind a young son, and hundreds of friends and fans.

Please send positive thoughts to surf photographer Andrew Rebeiro and my dear friend Greg Brooks. Please add Mike Keefe to your list. Mike's a local surfer who has been surfing these parts for decades. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. Please pray for Dave O'Connor. A good man, a great mentor to so many kids, and a wonderful school principal.
*I'm adding a close dear friend of mine. Marine SSGT George Masten. A combat Marine who served in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the purple heart for wounds received in Vietnam in 1967. George is battling cancer. PLEASE say a prayer for him.

Please Support ALL The photographers who contribute to Ralph's Pic Of The Week every week for the last 9 years. **Think about BUYING a HIGH RES Photo from any of the weeks on RPOTW.

Remember my friends... Surfing Heals All Wounds

Yesterday- Old Saint Nick on a Surfboard.
(Below) This was the oldest pic I could find of a Santa surfing. It looks old to me, but then again, it could be recent. In either case, it's a vintage looking Santa on what appears to be a red paddle board. So I'm going with it being old. Regardless, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all and to all a goodnight!

I think I shot the death of a crab here. I took the photo of the gull because it was so close. It wasn't until I got home and saw the clip up close. "View From A Blue Moon" Trailer from John John Florence on Vimeo.

See the sport of surfing as it’s never been captured before in John Florence and Blake Vincent Kueny’s second signature release, in association with award-winning film studio, Brain Farm. The first surf film shot entirely in 4K, View From a Blue Moon follows the world’s most dynamic surfer John Florence and his closest friends from his home on the North Shore of Oahu to his favorite surfing destinations around the globe. From the dreamy blue perfection of the South Pacific to the darkest uncharted waters of Africa (and everywhere in between), Florence faces a broad spectrum of emotions as he continues to seal his legacy as one of the most gifted surfers ever. And while the young Hawaiian is pulled in increasingly different directions, there is no form of pressure that will keep him from his ultimate goal — to redefine what is possible in the ocean.

MATTERAS Thanksgiving Week 2015 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The week of Thanksgiving 2015 was one of those swells that kept "giving back" to all the local surfers.
The color of the water on the last day, and the amazing pinkish purple skies on the 20th, were just beautiful.
I'm very impressed at the way the young men and women have been surfing as of late. I've been around the block
a few times and think I have a handle on the who, what, and where around these parts. My only regret for this clip
is I didn't shoot from the water. But then again, I am nursing a few broken bones. But I'll get back out there. Especially
if I get to the West Coast and the tropics this winter. Until then, I'll be shooting down the street. Music is by Buckethead buckethead.com and Jimi Hendrix jimihendrix.com
